Prometheus BluRay to Feature Extended Cut!

Ridley Scott recently spoke with Collider about the Prometheus extended cut which should be a special feature when released on BluRay!

Here's the main excerpt from the interview:

Here’s the exact quotes from Scott on what will be on the Blu-ray and the deleted scenes:

SCOTT: This is fundamentally the director’s cut. But there will be half an hour of stuff on the menu because people are so into films—how they’re made, how they’re set up, and the rejections in it. That’s why it’s fascinating. So this will all go on to the menu.

Well I’m curious about the deleted scenes. Specifically in this film, Noomi [Rapace] mentioned maybe there was a fight scene with her and an Engineer.

SCOTT: The Engineer fight scene was pretty good. It will definitely go on the menu. It won’t go on the long version. The problem about it is, while she gives as good as she gets with an axe (she’s very physical), he’s so big, for him to be clouted with a conventional weapon somehow diminished him. It’s subtle. It’s drama. I didn’t want to diminish him by having this person who has a weapon to be able to back him off. It minimized him. That’s why when he deals with people inside his cockpit, it’s over. Wham, wham, wham. Even the shot doesn’t mean anything. And so all she has time for is introducing him to the big boy inside the lab.

You’re going to do an extended cut on the Blu-ray/DVD. Is it a lot longer?

SCOTT: Twenty minutes.

So there’s, like, twenty minutes that will be added back in for a longer version?

SCOTT: Maybe. But I’m so happy with this engine, the way it is right now. I think it’s fine. I think it works. It can go in a section where, if you really want to tap in, look at the menu. To see how things are long, and it’s too long. Dramatically, I’m about putting bums on seats. For me to separate my idea of commerce from art—I’d be a fool. You can’t do that. I wouldn’t be allowed to do the films I do. So I’m very user friendly as far as the studios are concerned. To a certain extent, I’m a businessman. I’m aware that’s what I have to do. It’s my job. To say, “Screw the audience.” You can’t do that. “Am I communicating?” is the question. Am I communicating? Because if I’m not, I need to address it.

Looks like we will be getting an extended cut after all!

Looking forward to it, Loved the movie, Huge fan of the Alien trilogy, was slightly disappointed that Prometheus seemed to fall further from (what I personally consider) realism. As the reason I love Alien so much is that it felt so real, almost possible and very technologically down to earth for a scifi.

I know This was not supposed to be Alien again, so i enjoyed it very much on its own terms. I hope they do a sequel with the original alien in it, as much as that might be boring for the people working on the film, I think its what the fans want, something Alien that is not AVP and terrible. I hope if they do make a sequel it is as gritty and dirty as Alien and Aliens 2 + 3 was.

Oh and crossing my fingers they are not going to connect it religiously to something that happened 2000 years ago. Been done a million times, well in books at the least and why would a species wipe out earth for what some small portion of Europe did.

they should make an extended cut i dont like the idea of adding the scenes has extras i think thats a very half ass shitty thing to do considering the fact that every movie you have made has more than one cut but with this one he wants to leave it has it is i hope he thinks long hand hard if he likes the movie the way it is that much than be a true business man and make the bluray contain and extended cut and an original cut so people be able tho choose which version they like best its only logical and smart to give the viewer choice and give them more for the money they pay for not less or the same. the movie felt incomplete and rushed to me i believe if you think yourself to be such a smart business man you would release the extended cut bluray but also allowing us to choose which version we wish to see if the original cut since you loved it so much and the version every fan wants to see an extended cut the one that every one truly wants to see and i say a true business man finds a way to make more money by actually pleasing the fan base by giving them what they want in the end is there money that makes you rich.

I agree that it would be much better to re-edit the film and put the "lost footage" back in (PROPERLY EDITED). I don't want it as deleted scenes. I want it as a longer (even better) film. I believe that is possible, vital even, to the legacy of this film and franchise.

David's translation was the same as when Roy met Tyrell in Bladerunner

"Can the maker repair what he makes?"

Everyone talks about this film as an "Alien" prequel yet few make the link to the DNA/Master/Slave/Big Corporation relationship to Bladerunner. It isn't a coincidence that David8 and Roy Batty both dyed their hair blond.

the interviewer assumes, that RS is doing an "extended cut" (ie roughly 20 mins longer than TC) ... he then asks, if RS will incorporate that +20mins into a longer version .. and RS answers "Maybe" .. but he's happy with it as it is ..

can anyone make any sense out of that?

I don't need a "deleted scenes" section in the BluRay Menu ... you need to have this stuff re-edited into a longer cut version of the movie !

I totally agree with soundwaves his contradiccting himself all im saying if he says he likes the original cut better well make the bluray to have both versions the extended and the originsl cut that makes everyone happy he has done it before in pretty much all his films. He says his a business man well a businessman finds a way to make more money be giving the people what they ask for.
